Car Smells like Its burning?

So I need someone knowledgeable for some input....My car smells like its burning similar to if its burning the oil. No matter where I drive or how I drive it. Going uphill, downhill, just 2 minutes away it STINKS! It wafts into the house and makes the whole house smell. I checked the oil and its full just a little under. My mechanic thinks because I'm a girl I know nothing and discredits everything I say. Does anyone know what this could be? Its not my car, its my parents car, but I use it. So I dont want to go out and spend a ton getting 2nd and 3rd opinions but I don't want something to go really wrong and my parents be out hundreds of dollars
